What You Need To Know

How MLS Laser Therapy works and what it can do for your pain.

Painless Pain Relief with MLS Laser

When you think of pain relief, you think of something that will work without causing more pain. MLS Laser is one treatment that fits the bill. It is a pain Laser that is in fact, painless! This particular Laser uses light energy and converts it to biomechanical energy by stimulating your own body’s healing mechanisms at the cellular level. In essence, it recruits your body’s own naturally occurring cellular turnover so your body can fight pain and inflammation.

MLS Laser Therapy uses specific wavelengths of light that have a strong anti-inflammatory, anti-edema effect on tissues exposed to the laser. Photons of laser energy penetrate deeply into tissue and accelerate cellular reproduction and growth. As a result, the cells of tendons, ligaments, and muscles repair themselves faster, and as inflammation is reduced, pain subsides very quickly. In simple terms, laser energy kick-starts the healing process, thereby speeding recovery.

MLS stands for Multiwave Lock System. It delivers light in two distinct wavelengths: 808 nanometers and 905 nanometers. The lower wavelength concentrates on reducing inflammation and edema, while the higher wavelength focuses on pain reduction for an analgesic effect.

Whether you have an acute injury such as a sprain, strain, or stress fracture, or chronic pain from arthritis, neuropathy, or post-operative pain, MLS Laser therapy may be a good option. Conditions such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis, and ankle sports injuries respond well. Schedule a consultation to see if MLS Laser Therapy is right for you.

Benefits and What to Expect

This is actually our favorite part, as there are so many benefits to MLS Laser! It is noninvasive, meaning there is no break in the skin. When using the robotic arm, the MLS Laser stays approximately 8 inches away from the skin. There is no down-time, so you can even schedule appointments during your lunch break. The Laser also causes vasodilation of the blood vessels, increasing blood flow to the affected area.

MLS Laser has been on the market since 2009, and there are still no known side effects. As long as you keep at least one day between sessions so the cells can regenerate and heal, you will not feel any side effects. This therapy can also be used in conjunction with other therapies such as physical therapy, and the effect is additive. Many patients use MLS to reduce their need for oral NSAIDs or post-operative pain medications.

For your first treatment, you come into the treatment room, sign our consent, watch a quick introductory video, and have the chance to get all your questions answered. You will wear protective eyeglasses at all times during treatment. Since there is no pain, our patients find this very relaxing. Some even doze off!

Most acute injuries respond well with 6 sessions, typically 2 to 3 times a week for 2 to 3 weeks. For chronic conditions, the recommended total is 12 sessions over 4 to 6 weeks, with a possible maintenance program afterward. The average treatment takes 10 to 30 minutes. During your consultation, your doctor will design a plan tailored to your needs so you can get back to your everyday activities.
